Weekend Closure of Route 68 in Naugatuck for Construction Activities Associated with the Rehabilitation of Bridge 00596 - Route 68 over Route 8, S.R. 710, Metro-North Railroad and the Naugatuck River in Naugatuck
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled weekend closure of Route 68 in Naugatuck to facilitate ongoing construction activities related to the replacement of Bridge 00596 which carries Route 68 over Route 8, S.R. 710, Metro-North Railroad and Naugatuck River in Naugatuck. The closure will begin on Friday, June 2, at 8:00 PM, and the roadway will reopen on Monday, June 5, at 5:00 AM.

Project Overview
The project consists of the rehabilitation of the full length of Bridge No. 00596 including replacement of the existing concrete bridge beams with high-strength weathering steel, full replacement of the existing concrete deck, reconstruction of the bridge seat at both abutments, reconstruction of existing wing walls, and various repairs to the existing five piers. Extensive utility relocation is also included within the project.

DOT Project No. 0087-0142 was awarded to Mohawk Northeast, Inc. at a cost of $12,839,808.25 on February 3, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2018.
