Capacity and Operational Improvements on Route 69 In the Vicinity of Route 15 in Woodbridge and New Haven
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work, including minimal widening along Route 69, milling and paving, intersection improvements and new signalization, will be performed along Route 69 and seven (7) adjoining roadways (Lucy Street, Merritt Ave., Rte. 15 SB On-Ramp, Rte. 15 SB Off-Ramp, Pond Lily Ave., Rte. 15 NB Off-Ramp and the intersection with Whalley Ave). Work is scheduled to proceed on April 16th, 2018.
The improvements will include widening of Route 69, approximately 4 feet on the east side starting north of the Route 15 northbound exit ramp intersection to accommodate for two lanes and a 4 foot shoulder in the northbound direction. Also, it is proposed to close the existing merge ramp from Route 69 southbound to Route 15 southbound and include a dedicated right turn lane on Route 69 southbound.
The project also includes widening of the Route 15 southbound and northbound exit ramps to provide additional turning lanes. A new traffic signal will be added to the northbound exit ramp at Route 69, as well as replacement signals at the Route 15 southbound exit ramp, Pond Lily Avenue and Merritt Avenue intersections.
To address congestion on Route 69 a raised traffic island is to be installed at the intersection of Pond Lily Avenue to prohibit left-hand turns onto Route 69 southbound. Access to Route 69 southbound can be achieved via Lucy Street and Route 63, or Valley Street and Ramsdell Street.
Current roadway drainage systems are being improved through the installation of additional catch basins, and upgrading the sizes of current underground pipes. Pedestrian improvements are also being accomplished through the inclusion of sidewalks along the west side of Route 69 from Route 15 southbound exit ramp to Lucy Street as well as from adjacent to the intersection of Route 69 and all Route 15 ramps and Route 69 and Pond Lily Ave.
DOT Project no. 0092-0672 was awarded to R.E.D. Technologies LLC at a cost of $2,976,691.85 on March 21st, 2018 and is scheduled to be completed September 12th, 2019.
