Culvert Replacement Requiring Road Closure and Detour on Route 146 in Guilford
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the replacement of an existing, failed 30-inch corrugated metal pipe culvert under Route 146 at approximately .20 miles east of Moose Hill Road in Guilford. The work activity to replace the culvert is set to begin on Friday, November 30, 2018. A weekend-long detour will be required to remove and replace the culvert beginning November 30, 2018, at 7 PM and ending on Monday, December 3, at 6 AM. The remainder of the work activity can be completed utilizing alternating one-way traffic. The total construction duration is estimated to be less than two weeks.
The project consists of an open-cut excavation approximately 12-feet deep across Route 146 where the existing 30-inch culvert will be removed and replaced with a 36-inch aluminum corrugated metal pipe or reinforced concrete pipe. The head and end walls will be demolished, and it is anticipated that both will need to be reconstructed. The excavation will be backfilled, compacted and the roadway surface will be reestablished. The existing wood-post guiderail system will be removed and replaced with updated guiderail to meet current safety standards. It is anticipated that a catch basin will need to be installed on the south side of Route 146 to collect surface runoff to prevent future erosion adjacent to the new end wall.
DOT Project no. 0059-0167 was awarded to Guerrera Construction at an estimated cost of $796,550.00.
