Public Information Meeting for the Replacement of Bridge 00069 Carrying Beachside Avenue over I-95 in Westport
The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public information meeting for the replacement of Bridge No. 00069 carrying Beachside Avenue over I-95 in the town of Westport.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Westport Town Hall Auditorium, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Westport, Connecticut.
Bridge No. 00069 is a two span bridge approximately 213 feet long, with a 49.2 feet out-to-out deck width and a curb-to-curb roadway width of 40 feet.  The bridge was built in 1958 and carries three lanes of traffic, two lanes in one direction and crosses I-95 near the intersection of Green Farms Road.  The estimated 2017 Average Daily Traffic (ADT) is approximately 3,800 vehicles.
The project scope is to replace the existing bridge.  Replacement is required based on the finding of the latest routine special bridge inspection report in which the bridge was found to be in poor condition due to a deteriorated deck.

The new bridge will be a multi-girder steel structure on a new substructure.  In addition to the replacement of Bridge No. 00069, Beachside Avenue will be realigned.  The Department is proposing eliminating the right-turn lane onto Greens Farms Road and changes to the intersection of Beachside Avenue and Greens Farms Road.  The proposed curb-to-curb roadway will decrease to approximately 30 feet and provide one lane of traffic in each direction.
A six month closure of Bridge No.00069 and a corresponding detour of pedestrian and vehicular traffic are required to construct the bridge.  The proposed detour is approximately 3.0 miles using local routes.  Alternating one-way traffic may also be required before and after the bridge closure and detour.
The overhead utilities at the bridge will be relocated to facilitate the installation of the proposed structure. Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early spring of 2020 and be completed in fall 2020.  The estimated construction cost for this project is $8,800,000.  This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80 percent Federal Funds and 20 percent State funds.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible.  Language assistance may be requested by contracting the Department’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2243 at least 5 business days prior to the meeting.  Persons with hearing and/or speech disabilities may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS).  Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.
Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at the Department's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Mr. Ken-Taro Plude at (860) 594-3343 or by e-mail at Ken-Taro.Plude@ct.gov.
All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with Department personnel.
