Public Informational Meeting Regarding Safety Improvements along Route 202 (Federal Road) in Brookfield
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public information meeting concerning proposed safety improvements along Route 202 (Federal Road) in Brookfield on Monday, October 29, 2018, at the Brookfield Town Hall, Rm 133, 100 Pocono Road, Brookfield, Connecticut. A formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. immediately followed a question and answer session and individual discussions with Department officials. The project is identified as State Project No. 18-135.
The purpose of this project is to improve safety on the lower portion of Route 202 (Federal Road) for all users. The project limits are from the driveway of BJ's/Kohl’s to the intersection of Route 202 (Federal Road) and Route 133 (Junction Road).
The project consists of four (4) intersection safety improvements:
- The construction of a southbound dedicated left-turn lane into Chick-Fil-A and Shop Rite plaza.
- The installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Beverly Drive and Hardscrabble Road.
- The installation of a traffic signal at the southern intersection of Route 202 and Old New Milford Road.
- The removal of one of the two traffic signals at the northern intersection of Route 202 and Old New Milford Road.
The project also proposes the widening of the roadway along the corridor to provide 4-foot shoulders to improve safety for bicyclists. In addition, the project will include the construction of 5-foot sidewalks to accommodate pedestrian traffic along the corridor.
Some right-of-way acquisitions are required with project.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in January 2021, with construction anticipated to begin in summer 2021. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $6.0 million, anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
The public information meeting is being held to offer a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning the proposed improvements.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109, requests should be made at least five (5) business days prior to the meeting.
