The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction activities will begin for the replacement of Bridge 4470 and the reconstruction of Route 10 at Old Farms Road in Avon, on Monday, December 17, 2018.

The project consists of replacing Bridge 4470 (Old Farms Road over the Farmington River) with a new structure located to the north.  Widening of Route 10 in the vicinity will allow for construction of dedicated turn lanes, intersection alignment and drainage improvements.

DOT Project 0004-0116/0118 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company, Inc. of Avon, CT at a cost of $14,680,173.60, and is scheduled to be completed in October of 2020.

The contractor will not interfere with the existing number of lanes in each direction as follows:

Route 10
Monday through Friday from 6 am to 9 am
Monday through Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm

The contractor must also provide two travel lanes, one in each direction:
Monday through Friday between 9 am and 3 pm

Old Farms Road and Tillotson Road
Monday through Friday from 6 am to 9 am
Monday through Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm

Bishop Lane
Daily between 9 pm and 6 am
Monday through Friday from 6 am to 9 am
Monday through Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm

Detours of Old Farms Road, Tillotson Road, and Bishop Lane may occur during the course of construction, however, notification will be provided at least two weeks prior to these closures.
