The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the Providence Worcester Branch of the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad will be upgrading the railroad/highway at-grade crossing on Route 12 in the Danielson section of Killingly, beginning Friday, August 17, 2018.
A complete road closure of Main Street at the railroad/highway at-grade crossing will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, and is expected to remain closed until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018. This is a railroad crossing improvement project. A DOT milling and resurfacing project is scheduled to follow using alternating traffic. The funding for this upgrade and the work to be done is the sole responsibility of the Providence Worcester Branch of the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad and their subcontractor, RailWorks Track Services.
CLOSURE INFO: A complete road closure of Main Street at the railroad/highway at-grade crossing will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, and is expected to remain closed until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018. A roadway detour will be implemented via a fixed message board and “Road Detour” signs installed by the Department of Transportation. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES: It is expected that there will be a complete closure at the railroad/ highway at-grade crossing for a four (4) day period. All associated emergency personnel for the Town of Killingly & Danielson have been notified. There will be an increase in noise levels in the vicinity of the railroad crossing due to the construction. There will also be construction activities occurring on Friday evening, August 17, 2018, until Monday morning, August 20, 2018.
