“Bike to Work” Event

Ride Your Bike to Work on Friday, May 16

Location:  Old State House, Main Street Downtown Hartford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) applauds those who rode their bikes to work throughout the winter.  About a dozen or so riders have braved the cold and darkness and faithfully rode their bikes to work throughout the chilly season.  The cold mornings never discouraged these hardy riders, and their extra effort provides benefits of air quality improvements from reduced automobile exhaust and reduced traffic for their community and the state of Connecticut.

“Let’s celebrate the arrival of warmer weather and keep the momentum going by leaving your cars at home and bicycling to work,” said Acting DOT Commissioner H. James Boice. “In addition to the benefits of cleaner air and reduced traffic, commuters themselves benefit from bicycling to work with improved health and fuel savings.”

If you are a bike commuter who works in downtown Hartford, please join others who share your delight in the outdoors for the “Hartford Bike Week” Bike to Work Event. The event takes place on Friday, May 16, 2008, from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. at the Old State House on Main Street in downtown Hartford.  Bike commuters meet for a free breakfast before going to work, compliments of the state Departments of Public Health, Environmental Protection and DOT.  In addition, state bicycle maps, safety brochures, and safety reflective stickers will be available free to all participants.
