Notice of Public Information Meeting concerning the Replacement of Bridge No. 04324 Route 175 (Cedar Street) Over Proposed New Britain/Hartford Bus Way
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the Replacement of Bridge No. 04324, Route 175 (Cedar Street) over the proposed New Britain/Hartford Bus Way, on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Town Hall, 131 Cedar Street in Newington, Conference Room 3 (Room 202).
The existing bridge was constructed in 1980 as part of the reconstruction of Route 175 in the town of Newington.  The bridge is a single span structure, approximately 100 feet in span length, and carries four lanes of traffic along Route 175, with an average daily traffic of approximately 35,000 vehicles per day.
The purpose of this project is to replace Bridge No. 04324, which has been identified to be in poor condition.  In addition, the project will be performed in a manner that is least disruptive to the 35,000 motorists that utilize this facility daily, and result in a structure that is fully compatible with the function of the New Britain/Hartford Bus Way.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2011 and be completed in fall of the same year.  The estimated cost of this project is approximately $2.5 million and will be undertaken with Federal and State funds.  Minor temporary work easements will be required for construction of the bridge and access to the construction site.  Route 175 will be open to traffic at all times during construction.
The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review.  ConnDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Mr. Joseph C. Cancelliere at (860) 594-3208 to make an appointment.

Any persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project.
