Increased Speed Enforcement in I-95 New Haven Corridor

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is reminding the traveling public that the speed limit is 40 MPH on I-95 and I-91 in the New Haven area. Posted speed limit maps can be found on i95newhaven.com. To help motorists navigate the corridor safely and efficiently, there will be increased state police presence for speed limit enforcement after the Labor Day Holiday.

CTDOT and the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection encourage motorists to follow the Courteous Driving Guidelines found on the program’s website. It must be emphasized that the current travel lanes and ramps are in temporary alignments to maintain traffic flow as construction continues in these areas.

CTDOT is continuously evaluating engineering solutions to address operational, safety and capacity issues throughout the I-95 New Haven Corridor. Considerable time is dedicated to assessing the physical conditions of the existing and newly implemented traffic patterns. Further updates in response to motorists’ concerns and requests for more information about the current and final roadway designs will be issued.

The I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program includes construction of the new Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge, the new Route 34 Flyover Bridge, and reconstruction of the I-95 / I-91 / Route 34 Interchange.

CTDOT is working to inform the public of construction progress and traffic impacts through announcements such as this, and on the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program website (www.i95newhaven.com).
