Smart Government: Department of Transportation Introduces Mobile Apps for Traffic and Public Transit Information and Updates
Department of Transportation Commissioner (DOT) James P. Redeker today announced that the DOT now offers a series of smartphone apps for traffic and rail information and updates.
“These apps give us another way to communicate with travelers and get them the best information quickly—they make government more accessible,” said Commissioner Redeker. “Governor Malloy has been a strong advocate of using technology to make government less expensive and easier to navigate. For commuters who depend on the DOT for road and travel condition updates, this is another way that the DOT is improving responsiveness.”
In addition to traffic advisories and access to traffic cameras, the apps also include quick links to Metro-North and Amtrak rails services, including schedules and fare information, bus schedules and routes, public transportation information and much more.
Each app can also be easily accessed and installed on a smartphone directly from the DOT’s website (www.ct.gov/dot) by scanning the Quick Read or QR barcode graphic. The apps range in cost from free to $2.99 and are available for both iPhone and Android smartphones.
The DOT is the first state agency to offer mobile phone apps.
