Workers Renewing Three Railroad Crossings and Rebuilding Merritt Parkway Railroad Bridge

Workers will be out in force along Metro-North Railroad’s New Canaan Branch during the first four weekends of August to renew railroad crossings at three intersections with local streets and rebuild the railroad bridge over the Merritt Parkway.

Metro-North Railroad track workers will renew the tracks and crossing surfaces at two railroad crossings in New Canaan and two in the Springdale section of Stamford as well as improve drainage, and install cable conduits. The railroad crossings are at Camp Avenue in Springdale and Talmadge Hill Road and Grove Street in New Canaan.

At the same time, workers from the Connecticut Department of Transportation will rebuild the bridge that carries the track of the New Canaan Branch over the Merritt Parkway in Talmadge Hill.

As a result of this work, weekend New Canaan Branch trains will be replaced by buses, and customers should anticipate 15-20 minutes of additional travel time. Buses bound for Stamford will operate 15-20 minutes earlier than schedule trains. Customers can find specific bus departure times at MTA.info/mnr. Buses will depart from Stamford at regular train departure times, but will take an additional 15-20 minutes to reach their final destinations.

The buses will replace trains from Friday evenings through Sunday late nights, starting on Friday, July 31, and lasting through Sunday, August 23. Each Friday evening, the first train to be replaced by bus service will be the 10:58 p.m. departure from Stamford, due New Canaan at 11:15 p.m.  All Saturday and Sunday trains on the four weekends (August 1-2, 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23) will be replaced by buses. Weekday train service will not be changed, other than on Friday evenings as noted above.
