CTDOT Announces Modified Operating Hours at Highway Rest Areas
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today reminded motorists that modified operating schedules for highway rest areas will take effect Friday, September 30, 2016. CTDOT first notified the public that rest areas would operate according to a modified schedule on July 22. Motorists will continue to be able to park at these facilities at all hours, every day of the week.
The rest areas and new daily schedules of operation, including Saturday and Sunday, are:
· I-84 (eastbound and westbound) in Willington – 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM;
· I-84 in Southington – 8:30 AM to 3:30PM;
· I-91 in Wallingford – 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM;
· I-91 in Middletown – 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM;
· I-95 in North Stonington – 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM; and
· I-84 in Danbury – 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
CTDOT also reminded motorists that the Welcome Center on I-95 in Westbrook closed on July 27. Parking is no longer available at that location.
By modifying the staffing schedules, CTDOT will realize approximately $2 million per year in savings.
The changes do not affect the state's 23 service plazas -- offering restaurants, gasoline, rest rooms and convenience stores -- on I-95, I-395 and Route 15 (Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways). The rest areas, by contrast, only offer rest rooms (and portable toilets after hours) and vending machines.
