Two Levels of the Stamford Train Station Garage to Reopen Monday

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced the Station Place Parking Garage at the Stamford Transportation Center will reopen on Monday, March 21, at 5 a.m. The newly reopened garage will provide approximately 300 spaces for customers on the ground and top floors of the garage.  Other levels of the garage will remain closed pending a decision on the long-term redevelopment plans for the transportation hub.

Following a routine engineering inspection last year, the Connecticut Department of Transportation closed the garage to allow for immediate repairs to concrete decking and lighting as well as construction of interior covered walkways for pedestrians.   These repairs and modifications were necessary to ensure public safety and continued operation of the facility.

Jim Gildea, Chair of the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council, said, “This is good news for commuters. The Council is pleased that the garage has been repaired and approximately 300 spots have been put back in service. The repairs were done quickly and ahead of schedule. This is good news for commuters.”

The project was budgeted at $1.5 million with an estimated completion date of April 10, 2016.  The work was completed under budget at $1.325 million and ahead of schedule.   Additionally, the work yielded about 50 additional spaces or 20 percent more capacity than originally anticipated at the outset of the project.

With the reopening of the Station Place Parking Garage, the Gateway Parking Garage at 406 Washington Boulevard will no longer offer discounted commuter parking; however commuters may continue to park at that location at posted rates.
