What is a disadvantaged business enterprise?
DBEs are small for-profit businesses in which people who are socially or economically disadvantaged own at least 51% of the business and run it on a day-to-day basis. You might be qualified if you belong to a group that the Department sees as having a disadvantage. Disadvantaged groups include:
- WomenBlack Americans
- Hispanic Americans
- Native Americans
- Asian-Pacific Americans
- Subcontinent Asian-Pacific Americans
- Other communities that the U.S. Small Business Administration has found to be disadvantaged
