Project Development Unit
The Project Development Unit (PDU) is responsible for developing, reviewing, and refining concepts to improve the transportation network within the State of Connecticut. This involves initiating projects with a defined purpose and need that have prudent and feasible solutions as well as estimating the costs associated with the design and construction of each project.
Project concepts are developed based on the needs identified by many sources, including other offices within the Department and Municipalities and their Regional Planning Organizations (RPOs). The development and evaluation of feasible alternatives is coordinated with those organizations, FHWA, other Department disciplines, as warranted, and with the public and other stakeholders within the local communities.
The Project Development Unit also provides technical support for Planning Studies, conducts geometric reviews for the Office of the State Traffic Administration’s (OSTA) Major Traffic Generator certification process, and assists with other Department needs.
