Welcome to the webpage for Project 0050-0224, U.S. Route 1 Road Diet, in the Town of Fairfield.
A virtual public informational meeting for the project will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the community an opportunity to learn about the proposed project and allow an open discussion of any views and comments concerning the proposed improvements. A Q&A session will immediately follow the presentation.
The purpose of the project is to enhance safety, mobility, and access for all road users. Within the project limits of this project, U.S. Route 1 will be restriped from a 4-lane roadway to a 3-lane roadway with a center two-way left turn lane. The project will be predominately implemented through resurfacing U.S. Route 1 and restriping the corridor as illustrated in the road diet conceptual pavement marking plan submitted with Project 0170-3480. Additional improvements, such as traffic control signal adjustments and upgrades, sidewalk repairs, sidewalk ramp modifications and upgrades, curb improvements and storm drainage structure top replacements will be incorporated into the project.
Right-of-way impacts associated with the proposed project are not anticipated.
Construction is anticipated to begin Summer 2025 based on the availability of funding and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $1,860,000. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 90% federal funds and 10% state funds.
