Passenger Rail Service in Connecticut

Passenger rail service in Connecticut is supported by CTDOT and consists of three main lines and three branch lines. The New Haven Line, operated by Metro-North, operates between New Haven and Grand Central Terminal in NYC. This line has three branch lines that extend to New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury. Shore Line East operates along the shore between New London and New Haven, with some through service to Stamford and connections to the New Haven Line. The Hartford Line operates between Springfield and New Haven connecting with New Haven Line and Amtrak Northeast Corridor service.

The New Haven Line, operated by Metro-North Railroad, consists of the New Haven Line between New Haven and Grand Central Terminal, NYC, and the New Canaan, Danbury, and Waterbury Branch Lines. Service operates daily. For additional information, please call (877) 690-5114.

Shore Line East rail service operates daily between New London and New Haven. Convenient connections are available to the New Haven Line at Union Station, New Haven. Free parking is available at all Shore Line East train stations (except New London and New Haven). Trains and stations are handicapped accessible. The Hartford Line rail service launched on June 16, 2018 for daily travel between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield, MA. The service is provided with a combination CTrail and Amtrak trains. Convenient connections are available in New Haven to New Haven Line, Amtrak Acela and Northeast Regional, and Shore Line East rail services, and a connection is available in Hartford to the CTtransit 30-Bradley Flyer to Bradley International Airport and CTfastrak bus rapid transit.
