Gov. Malloy Signs Legislation Codifying Practices into Law to Ensure the Fair Treatment of Women in Prison
Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced that he signed a new law on Monday that strengthens Connecticut’s efforts to bring fairness and dignity to incarcerated women, and thereby reduce recidivism. The legislation, which he proposed earlier this year, codifies into statute specific practices – many of which were enacted during the current administration – to require that they continue well into the future, no matter whom may be the state’s next governor.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and First Lady Cathy Malloy are applauding the Connecticut House of Representatives for voting 148-0 this afternoon to give final approval to legislation that will codify into law specific practices the Malloy administration enacted in recent years in an effort to improve the processing of sexual assault evidence kits at the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory and ensure that victims are treated in a compassionate way throughout the process.

Gov. Malloy Applauds Final Approval of Special Parole Legislation
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Corrections (DOC) Commissioner Scott Semple are commending members of the Connecticut General Assembly for voting unanimously this afternoon to approve legislation that will re-focus use of special parole sentences on high risk, violent and sexual offenders. This measure will address the overuse of special parole sentences on non-violent offenders, while allowing parole officers to focus their attention on the highest risk offenders.

Gov. Malloy Highlights Steps toward Connecticut Fairness Achieved during the 2018 Legislative Session
In February, Governor Dannel P. Malloy used his annual State of the State address before a joint session of the Connecticut General Assembly to focus on the theme of Connecticut Fairness. The Governor outlined several specific policy initiatives aimed at creating a fairer, more equitable, and more just state for Connecticut residents, stressing in particular the importance of focusing on fairness in the context of a tumultuous national and global political landscape. Legislators took action on several of the major initiatives the Governor proposed at the beginning of the legislative session and they are now being transmitted to his desk for his signature.

Gov. Malloy Launches Annual Summer Reading Challenge at State Library
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, State Department of Education Commissioner Dianna R. Wentzell, the State Library’s Director of Library Development Dawn LaValle, and school representatives from across the state today launched the 2018 Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge at the Connecticut State Library. Governor Malloy also announced the 2018 summer reading challenge theme “Libraries Rock!” and recognized the top-performing schools from the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Thank the Senate for Giving Final Approval to Legislation Banning Bump Stocks
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are commending the Connecticut State Senate for voting 26-10 tonight to give final approval on legislation that will ban bump stocks and other enhancements that increase the rate of fire for semiautomatic weapons, including trigger cranks, binary trigger systems, and other modifications. Governor Malloy proposed the ban in January.

Gov. Malloy Launches Innovative Microgrid to Help Woodbridge Provide Critical Services During Outages
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, along with Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Robert Klee, Woodbridge First Selectman Beth Heller, and United Illuminating (UI) CEO Anthony J. Marone, today celebrated the launch of the Town of Woodbridge’s innovative new microgrid to provide reliable power for police, fire and other emergency services. It is the result of a collaborative partnership between the State of Connecticut, the Town of Woodbridge, the Amity Regional School District, and UI.
