Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and First Lady Cathy Malloy are applauding the State Senate for voting 36-0 today in favor of legislation that will codify into law specific practices the Malloy administration enacted in recent years in an effort to improve the processing of sexual assault evidence kits at the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory and ensure that victims are treated in a compassionate way throughout the process.

Gov. Malloy Announces Prison Population at Historic Lows
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut’s prison population has dropped to 13,500 inmates. This marks a year-over-year decline of 1,000 inmates, and the lowest level since 1994. The decline in prison population is coupled with the lowest reported crime rates the state has seen in more than 50 years, and the largest reduction in violent crime of any state in the nation over the last four years.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Statements on Final Passage of National Popular Vote Bill
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman released the following statements in response to the 21-14 vote in the State Senate this afternoon giving final approval to legislation opting Connecticut into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, under which Connecticut will allocate its electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins the most popular votes. This compact does not take effect until enough states sign on to guarantee that the national popular vote winner wins the presidency.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman are congratulating the Connecticut State Senate for their 35-1 vote this evening in favor of House Bill 5386, which echoes the intent of a similar legislative proposal the Governor introduced earlier this year (Senate Bill 15) and highlighted in his State of the State address. The bill aims to prevent unintended pay discrimination in the state by prohibiting employers from inquiring during the hiring process about a prospective candidate’s previous salary history.

Gov. Malloy Announces Groundbreaking Partnership between Connecticut and Center for Policing Equity
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Connecticut’s police agencies, including the Connecticut State Police and the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association, have joined in a partnership with the Center for Policing Equity’s (CPE) National Justice Database (NJD), the largest compilation of police data in the nation. To date, more than 240 of the country’s police departments, representing more than 25 percent of the United States’ population, have partnered with the NJD, but today’s announcement makes Connecticut the first state to make such a commitment.

Gov. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Wyman Commend Planned Parenthood’s Action against Trump-Pence Administration
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, and members of the administration released the following statements in response to Planned Parenthood’s lawsuit against the Trump-Pence administration, alleging that the dramatic changes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is making to the Title X program – including changing the program so that it no longer focuses on either birth control or reproductive health care and instead pushes patients toward abstinence and tries to prevent patients from utilizing Planned Parenthood’s services – are contrary to the Title X statute and regulations, which make clear that Title X is meant to provide comprehensive, evidence-based contraception and reproductive health services.

Gov. Malloy Announces Commissioner Sullivan to Step Down from the Department of Revenue Services
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that Department of Revenue Services (DRS) Commissioner Kevin B. Sullivan will depart from his work with the agency effective May 10, 2018 to pursue other professional opportunities. Commissioner Sullivan has served as the head of DRS since January 2011.

Gov. Malloy Announces Historic Long-Term Partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced an historic partnership with General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) that will help the company grow their workforce by nearly 1,900 bringing it to more than 13,000 by 2034, allow for capital investments of greater than $800 million in the state over the next 17 years, and more than double their spending on in-state suppliers, which are located in 102 Connecticut cities and towns. Connecticut’s investment will allow EB to maintain its position as the highest-quality provider of submarines to the U.S. Navy, thus capturing additional overhaul and repair work while continuing the delivery of the Virginia Class Submarines.
