State to File Civil Complaint, Dissolution Action in Doc Hurley Scholarship Foundation Investigation
The state will file a civil complaint against the executive director of the Doc Hurley Scholarship Foundation seeking civil penalties and injunctive relief for the alleged use of charitable funds for personal expenses, Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today.

Attorney General Reaches Settlement in Antitrust Lawsuit with Three Southbury Companies over Alleged Boycott and Bid-Rigging
Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen today announced that settlements have been reached with three Southbury companies over allegations of illegal boycott and bid-rigging involving snow removal and snowplowing services. The settlements resolve a lawsuit brought by the Attorney General in Connecticut Superior Court alleging that the three Southbury companies had violated the Connecticut Antitrust Act and the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act.

Attorney General, DCP Urge Target Customers to Take Advantage of Free Credit Monitoring in Wake of Data Breach
Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein today urged all Connecticut residents who shop at Target stores to take advantage of one year of free credit monitoring being offered by the retail company in the wake of the massive data breach announced last month.

Connecticut Joins Global Settlement Resolving Health Care Fraud Allegations against CareFusion Corporation
Attorney General George Jepsen, Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane and Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby today announced that Connecticut has joined with other states and the federal government in a global settlement with CareFusion Corporation to resolve allegations of unlawful marketing practices in promoting the sale of Chloraprep, a surgical preparation solution.

Settlement Will Provide for Consumer Restitution in Deceptive Practices Suit over Weight-loss Product Marketing, Sales
The state of Connecticut and the Federal Trade Commission have entered into a settlement with three Branford-based companies and their owner that will provide restitution to consumers harmed by the companies’ alleged deceptive and unfair Internet marketing and sales practices, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner William M. Rubenstein said today.

Courtney, Jepsen Call on Congress to Extend Critical Mortgage Tax Provision
Congressman Joe Courtney and Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen highlighted the need to extend tax relief for forgiven mortgage debt. The tax provision, which allowed taxpayers to exclude “income” from mortgage modifications, short sales, and foreclosures from being subject to federal income taxes, expired at the end of last year.

State Secures Judgment against New Haven Companies and Operator for Hazardous Waste, Air Pollution Violations
Three New Haven companies and their operator must pay nearly $750,000 in civil penalties under a recent court order for violating the state’s hazardous waste and air pollution control laws and regulations, Attorney General George Jepsen and state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Daniel C. Attorney General George Jepsen yesterday filed official comments with the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs on behalf of the state in opposition to proposed rules issued that would significantly weaken the substantive requirements for federal tribal recognition. Governor Dannel P. Malloy said that he supports the Attorney General's comments and that, if ultimately enacted, the BIA's proposed rules would have a unique impact in Connecticut.

State officials have asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to grant a rehearing of a notice issued last month that allowed ISO-New England's eighth forward capacity auction (FCA 8) results to go into effect without any determination that the auction results were just, reasonable and free from the exercise of market power.
