Consumer Alert: Information for Anthem customers
The Connecticut Insurance Department is offering the following information for customers of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of CT awaiting confirmation of coverage and payment from carriers whose policies they chose during the Affordable Care Act open enrollment that began October 1, 2013.
Anthem is:
- Extending deadline for premium payment to Jan. 31, with coverage retroactive to January 1.
- Providing a dedicated e-mail address for Connecticut customers experiencing problems with the phone system or Web site – e-mail address pending.
- Offering customers payment options that include:
- On-line payments (initial payment letter & application ID needed to use this feature)
- Phone payments - 1-855-738-6644, follow voice prompts
- In-person payments at Wallingford office, 108 Leigus Road, Wallingford, CT from Jan. 15-Jan. 31, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (credit cards and checks only accepted)
- Mail in payments: Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Individual Services, P.O. Box 9041, Oxnard, CA 93031-9041
- When will I get a member ID card?
- I’ve called customer service and have not been able to reach a representative.
- I have made a payment, but my bank account or credit card has not yet been charged. What should I do?
- Can I fill a prescription or see a physician without my permanent or temporary ID card?
The Department is aware that delays in confirmation are causing frustration and uncertainty and has been working with carriers to ensure that they meet the needs of their customers as swiftly as possible. The Department fully expects carriers to make good on their obligations to their policyholders. Consumers are encouraged to contact the Department Consumer Affairs Division with further questions or complaints.
