PRODUCER RENEWAL INFORMATION

The Online Renewal Notification is emailed to your email on file at least 90 days prior to your license expiration date. You must renew online at the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”

FEE STRUCTURE	FEE
Renewal Fee:	$160 (plus the NIPR transaction fee)
Late Renewal Fee:	$320 (plus the NIPR transaction fee)

NIPR accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, PayPal, or electronic checks.

Note: The Department does not accept cash, checks or paper applications.

Please review your submission carefully. Renewal fees are non-refundable.

PRODUCER LICENSE RENEWAL PROCESS

You need to complete your Continuing Education (CE) requirement BEFORE submitting your renewal application through nipr.com. Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.” Individuals whose CE requirements are not posted as COMPLIANT by the last day of their birth month will NOT be able to submit their renewal application and fee.

If the CE requirements are completed timely (by the license expiration date) and posted by the provider within ten (10) days, producers will be allowed to renew with the $160.00 renewal fee.

If the CE requirements are completed after the producer’s expiration date, the licensee will be charged the late renewal fee of $320.00.

Update your Producer License

Please be reminded that it is your responsibility to keep your contact information current. Failure to receive a renewal reminder notice does NOT excuse the licensee from Connecticut renewal obligations.

To change or update your email or address information, update your information at National Insurance Producer Registration (NIPR). Allow one to two business days for the changes to be applied to your license.

Note: You will not be able to update your information once you start processing your renewal through NIPR.

CONTINUING EDUCATION (CE) REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCER LICENSE RENEWAL

Individuals – Residents

Resident insurance producers with Life, Accident and Health or Sickness, Property, Casualty or Personal Lines authority, must complete 24 CE credits each renewal period.

There is no CE requirement if you have a "Credit Only" or "Travel Only" license.

Make sure you have completed all requirements outlined on your transcript. The status must read “Compliant” for all categories.

You may not “drop” or “remove” a line of authority. The authority held at the beginning of the current license period determines the CE requirement for that license period.

If you have completed your CE course(s) and the information is not showing on your transcript, contact the vendor you took the course with directly.

Note: New licensees must also complete 24 CE credits upon their first renewal.

Individual - Non-residents

You are not required to complete continuing education credits in Connecticut.

Business Entities

No continuing education is required.

Expiration Dates

Individuals – Your license expires on the last day of your birth month. If you are a Resident insurance producer, you also need to complete the full 24 CE credit requirement by that date. For new licensees, this may mean that the first license cycle is not a full two years. For example: If the license was issued on May 10, 2020, and the insurance producer’s last birthday was December 4, 2019, then the expiration date of the license will be December 31, 2021. Once the license renews on December 31, 2021, it will not expire again until December 31, 2023.

Business Entities – If a business entity does not renew by January 31 (even-numbered years), they owe a $320 fee, plus the NIPR transaction fee.

Late Renewals

Individuals – If you do not pay your renewal fee by the expiration date, your license and all appointments will be canceled.

If you are a resident insurance producer and do not pay your renewal fee and complete your CE requirements by your renewal date, your license and all appointments will be canceled.

Business Entities – If the entity fails to renew by January 31st (even numbered years), the fee will be $320 plus the NIPR transaction fee.

Note: Individuals and Business entities have one year from the license expiration date to late renew by going to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. Under Licensing Center, select “Renew an Existing License.”

Reinstatement

To reinstate the license for up to one year after the expiration date, you will be required to complete the CE requirement (Residents Individuals Only) and pay a late fee of $160 for a total of $320.

After one year, residents will be required to complete the pre-licensing education course and pass the exam, prior to submitting the reinstatement application. To submit the application, go to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. Under Licensing Center, select “Apply for a New License.” The reinstatement fee is $130 plus the NIPR transaction fee.
