How do I submit a claim for damage to my car?

 

File a Claim

You cannot file a claim online.

To file a claim with the Department of Transportation there are 3 procedures depending on the accident or incident:

1. If your claim is due to a defective condition on a highway: Section 13a-144 of the Connecticut General Statutes says that your claim must be given to the Commissioner within 90 days of the incident. Your notice must provide the information required in the statute, including your name, address, phone number, email, time and place of the incident, and who it involved. You can mail your claim to:

Note: No such action shall be brought except within two years from the date of such injury, nor unless notice of such injury and a general description of the same and of the cause thereof and of the time and place of its occurrence has been given in writing within ninety days thereafter to the commissioner. Before filing a claim, you may wish to consult with your legal counsel.

2. If your claim is due to a motor vehicle owned or operated by the state of Connecticut or a CT employee: Section 52-556 be sure to provide your name, address, email, and telephone number in your claim and mail it to:

3. All other claims can review Chapter 53 of the Connecticut General Statutes and mail them to:

What to expect after filing a claim

For claims filed under section 13a-144 or section 52-556 of the Connecticut General Statutes, the matter is referred to the State’s third-party insurance administrator. A Claim representative will contact you with the disposition of your claim. Claims filed under Chapter 53 will follow the process set forth in that Chapter.
