Gov. Malloy Signs Bills Establishing the Office of Early Childhood and Moving Connecticut toward Universal Pre-Kindergarten
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Commissioner of the Office of Early Childhood, Myra Jones-Taylor, State Department of Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor, state legislators and local officials, this afternoon signed two bills at the Helen Street School in Hamden that will expand pre-kindergarten for the state’s three and four-year-olds, add dyslexia as a primary specific learning disability for children requiring special education, and formally establish the Office of Early Childhood.

Gov. Malloy: After 40 Years of Planning and Discussion, New Courthouse to be Built in Torrington
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the State Bond Commission will vote Friday on the final funding elements necessary for the new Litchfield County Courthouse project in Torrington. He also released a rendering of the new facility and announced the formal groundbreaking will occur in July.

Gov. Malloy: Sherwood Island State Park Expected to Receive $3.1 Million for Major Improvements
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $3.1 million to fund improvements at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport is expected to be approved at the next meeting of the state Bond Commission. The funding will allow for major renovations to the park’s main pavilion, among other upgrades.

Gov. Malloy Signs Law Criminalizing False Claims of Military Valor for Profit
Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Friday morning announced that he has signed legislation clarifying that it is illegal for a person to falsely represent themselves as being the recipient of a medal or decoration for military service when it is done with the intent to fraudulently obtain money, property, goods or services.

Gov. Malloy Congratulates Six Connecticut Companies That Received NASA Contracts to Develop Aerospace Technology and Assist With Space Exploration
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today praised the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announcement that it has awarded six Connecticut companies contracts valued at $125,000 each to conduct feasibility studies that could lead to advances in space exploration and aerospace technology.

Gov. Malloy: Starwood Hotels Worldwide Will Expand in Stamford and Create Jobs for Residents
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner Catherine Smith, Starwood executives and other state and local officials, today announced that Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is expanding its global headquarters in Stamford. Starwood will be creating 340 new full-time jobs in the state, in addition to retaining its current workforce of 980 employees.
