About the Project

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation Design-Build project will include the design and construction of bridge superstructure repair, replacement, and minor substructure improvements for the following bridges:

1. I-84 WB (Exit 54 to Downtown Hartford) over I-84 EB in East Hartford( Bridge No. 02367)

2. Route 2 WB (to Downtown Hartford) over I-84 EB in East Hartford (Bridge No. 02366)

3. Route 2 EB (towards Norwich and New London) over I-84 in East Hartford (Bridge No.02369)

4. Potter School Road over I-84 in Willington (Bridge No. 00847)

All four bridges were constructed in the 1960’s, and exhibit significant deterioration. The replacement and repair of these bridges will keep them in service for the next 75 years.

These bridges will be rehabilitated over the course of the 2018 and 2019 construction seasons, with work on the latter two bridges conducted over 2018 and the former largely being conducted over the course of the 2019 construction season. Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques will be used in this project, minimizing construction time and traffic impacts on the community.
