Train and Park and Ride Shuttles to The Big E Announced

Shuttle Services to The Big E on Weekends and “Connecticut Day”

Available for Hartford Line Riders and from Enfield Square Park and Ride

(Newington, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today the availability of two shuttle bus options to The Big E. Both will be operated by King Ward Coach Lines and will serve passengers on all three weekends of The Big E (September 14^th -15^th, 21^st-22^nd and 28^th-29^th), plus Connecticut Day on Wednesday, September 18^th, which is traditionally one of the busiest days for the fair.

The first shuttle is a free service for Hartford Line train passengers arriving at Springfield Union Station. The shuttle will meet incoming Hartford Line trains from New Haven at berth 24 in the bus area of the newly refurbished Union Station. A return shuttle will depart the Transportation Center near Gate 1 at The Big E to meet southbound trains.

The second shuttle option for fairgoers departs the Enfield Square Mall park and ride lot (I-91, Exit 48) every half hour from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and returns to the lot every half hour until 11:00 pm. This shuttle will only operate on weekends and Connecticut Day. Tickets for the Enfield shuttle are $20 for adults and $15 for children age six to 12 and include admission to The Big E and round trip transportation. Round trip shuttle only is $5 for ages 6 & up. Purchases are CASH ONLY and tickets will be sold on-site from 8:45am to 5pm.

The Big E has announced that traffic may be more of an issue this year, with construction occurring on the Morgan/Sullivan Bridge just to the west of the fairgrounds where routes 159, 147 and 75 merge.

“We are very happy to announce the availability of the train and park and ride shuttle services being provided by The Big E,” said Richard Andreski, CTDOT Public Transportation Bureau Chief. “They will get Connecticut residents to the fair without the traffic and parking hassles so they can take advantage of all The Big E has to offer.”
