Flags Will Fly at Half-Staff on Saturday From Sunrise to Sunset - Governor Dannel P. Malloy directed Connecticut flags to fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, November 3, 2012 in honor of Lieutenant Russell F. Neary, the Easton firefighter who was killed in the line of duty during Storm Sandy.

Connecticut Veterans Parade Recognized by Veterans Day National Committee
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda S. Schwartz, announced today that the Connecticut Veterans Parade, held annually in Hartford, has been recognized by the Veterans Day National Committee as one of the nation's "Veterans Day Regional Sites". This is the third year that the Veterans Parade has been recognized by the National Committee.

Statewide Emergency Drill Shows Improved Coordination and Communication, Better Delivery of Services in the Event of a Disaster
Governor Dannel P. Malloy on Tuesday said that the four-day statewide emergency preparedness drill that began on Saturday and was designed to simulate a Category 3 hurricane has allowed the state, local officials, utility companies, and the private sector to exercise planning and preparation for the possibility of future emergencies.

Hartford Will be Home to First State Memorial Honoring All Connecticut Veterans
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, joined by Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Linda S. Schwartz, state officials, and veterans, today announced plans to build the State of Connecticut's first memorial honoring all Connecticut veterans. The Connecticut State Veterans Memorial will be constructed in Minuteman Park across from the William A. O'Neill State Armory in Hartford and will break ground this fall.

STATEWIDE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE TO BEGIN JULY 28
Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that a four-day statewide emergency preparedness drill designed to simulate a Category 3 hurricane will begin on July 28th and run through July 31st. Coordinated by the state's Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), the exercise is designed to improve communication between the state's utility companies and state and local governments in the event of an emergency or other natural disaster.
