• What is the typical CEAP benefit?+
  Answer:

  CEAP recipients are eligible for assistance in avoiding winter disconnection. They will also receive help enrolling in the public utility companies’ Matching Payment Program (MPP) to maximize their CEAP benefit; this will reduce or eliminate past due balances. In addition, they will be provided with access to the Low Income Discount Rate (LIDR) for further reductions in their electric bill.

• How is the benefit amount determined?+
  Answer:

  Your benefit is determined based on your household’s income, the number of people in your household, and whether there is a ‘vulnerable’ household member (someone who is under age 6, over age 60, or has a disability).

• How will I receive CEAP benefits?+
  Answer:

  If you heat with a utility like electric or gas, your benefit will be sent directly to your utility company. If you heat with a deliverable fuel like oil or propane, the benefit will be sent to your deliverable fuel vendor. Households that have heat included in their rent, or owner-occupied dwellings where the primary source of heat is not individually metered or separately billed, will receive a check directly.
  
  If you are on automatic delivery, it's important to inform your vendor once you are approved for CEAP. Your fuel delivery will not be paid for without authorization from the community action agency.

• When are applications due?+
  Answer:

  CEAP is an annual benefit, so you need to apply each year to receive assistance.  Beginning on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, the CEAP online portal will be available to customers to apply for energy assistance.  Due to observance of Labor Day Holiday held on Monday, September 2, 2024, in-person applications will begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.  The last day a household can apply to establish its eligibility for benefits is on May 30, 2025.  All applications submitted by mail must be postmarked by May 30, 2025, to be evaluated for program eligibility. Deliverable fuel heated households that apply after the authorization deadline, need time to submit their paid invoices for fuel purchased between 11/1 and 4/1.
