My alias/vanity URL (shortcuts) for my page doesn’t work. This alias was used in the past for a predecessor of the current page. Is this a problem?
Answer: Old alias versions stay in the System. Once the old version is deleted, the alias will work. Please contact the CI Helpdesk to remove the old version.

My images I inserted on the page are not the same as what’s displaying on the website. Why?
Answer:
File names tend to be the culprit. Multiple image files labeled the same way (in Sitecore's eyes) will create issues.
Sitecore will associate file names as the same when the file name contains:- caps or lower case (GreenerGov SmLogo, GreenerGov smlogo)
- space or dash (GreenerGov smlogo, GreenerGov-smlogo)

My page keeps saying the following:
Please initialize your module with a starter category in Website Admin prior to use. If you are not ready to use this module, change it to not be shown on the internet or intranet in Module Configuration.
Answer: It could be that some text was part of a page that was recently deleted from that folder, but the parent folder was never published to finalize the deletion.
Sitecore is still displaying the old page, as the parent folder of items must be published in order to finalize deletions.
In order to finalize the deletion of an item, the parent folder must be published with the "Publish sub-items" option selected. -
Once again, I believe I have done all the right things to rename a page including the page itself, the content title, and the metadata. I have published and republished the page, the folder the page resides in as well as the preceding page and it is still displaying the old name. HELP!!!
Answer:
If you see this elsewhere, and if you've already changed all the title fields and re-published - try the following:
- Click "Show Editor" to bring up the Rich Text Editor.
- Make a small change to the page content, i.e. adding an extra space at the end of a paragraph (anything to get the page to register as having been changed in some way).
- Click "Save" and then "Publish".
- In the Publish settings, make sure "Re publish" is selected as opposed to "Smart publish".
This seems to trigger the correct updates. Also, doing a second hard-republish of the page after making a small change usually triggers the URL change to make it to the Web Server.

Sitecore is not publishing my changes.
Answer: There might be some odd HTML code on that link causing it not to display. Remove it, republish the pages, and see if that works.

Someone has a lock on a page and I can't find how to unlock it.
Answer:
For Content Authors, if you did not lock the page, you will need to contact the individual who locked the pages or your System Administrator to request the page be unlocked.
For System Administrators, you can unlock an item by selecting the "Edit" button from the Home tab and then selecting "Check In". You can also unlock a page from the Review tab and selecting "Check In".

The left navigation on my dynamic list is showing other lists and other items which is not a list. Can I fix this so that only relevant navigation items display?
Answer:
Option 1: If a dynamic list item has no sub-lists, it will use the other items at it's own level to populate the left nav.
List items that contain sub-lists will use show those sub-lists in the left nav.- Create sub-lists under your parent list to display different categories of forms or content
- Result: Left Nav will display the Sub-Lists
Option 2: CI can change the left-nav configuration to only show the item or it's sub-items.
Option 3: CI makes an admin config change to make navigation display content from a specific Media Library folder
Result: Left Nav will display only the folder items, or any sub-folders inside the specified media library folder -
The sort order for my list items is not working. I try the sort order function found on the Content Editor Ribbon and publish my changes, but it still doesn’t display on the Website like is does in Sitecore.
Answer:
- Select the item not appearing in the correct order.
- Resort it using the sort functions in the Content Editor Ribbon.
- Move the item up/down and then move it back to where you want it displayed.
- Save and Publish the item(s).
You can also validate the sort order by checking the sort order number on the item in question from the properties. To verify the sort order you are seeing is what will display when Previewed and Published:
- Select one of the lists.
- Scroll down to the Sortorder field under the Appearances Section.
- Check the sort order number. There is a number in the Sortorder field that gets dynamically generated. The lower the number, the higher the placement in the Sort order.
- Change the number by using the sort functions in the Content Editor Ribbon.
- Save and Publish the item(s).

There’s a link on my page that goes somewhere, but I don’t know where because I cannot see the URL when editing the page.
Answer: You can view the path of a folder, page, image, document file by Previewing the page in Sitecore and hovering over the link, and noting the URL that appears in the bottom left of your browser window.

We are having problems with the Agency-Specific - Local Navigation templates displaying in the order we want on the subpages. The local navigation on some of my pages appear in alphabetical order, and other times it’s sort order. How do I correct this?
Answer: When you come across pages that have inconsistent navigation ordering, like from a parent page to sub-pages, the reason is that the parent item's left navigation sorting was set to ‘Sort Order’ but the sub-items were set to ‘Alpha’.
Please contact your System Administrator and request they submit a ticket to the CI Helpdesk to correct the inconsistency. -
We have a user in need of a public calendar for in-house and outside people. Does Sitecore provide this feature?
Answer: That calendar is outside of the portal.ct.gov domain, and is not something CI maintains. There is, however, a Public Meeting Calendar application housed under the SOTS office: https://egov.ct.gov/PMC/.

What are some standard guidelines I can use for Metadata?
Answer:
Here are some simple guidelines for Metadata to ensure optimal results:
MetaTitle
- Keywords should appear in the title.
- Keep titles under 65 characters to ensure they show up on search engine result pages (SERPs) in full.
- You may add your Agency name in the title to help provide context around it. For example: Renew your driver license through the Department of Motor Vehicles
MetaDescription
- Try to keep the description to no more than two sentences or 160 characters.
- Including keywords to show visitors that the content is relevant to their needs.
- Write a description to catch the visitor's attention.
MetaKeywords
- Use only unique key words or phrases that visitors may enter to find that piece of information.
- Separate keywords with a coma.
- Do not overuse keywords.

What does archive mean, under the Review tab? Does it hide it in the editor side, can it be searched and found?
Answer: The "Archive" button removes an item from the content tree, but does not delete it from the database - if the item is published, it will remain visible on the live site until the parent folder is republished. Archived items can be restored at a later date.
NOTE: Agencies can archive pages, however it should only be used when an item is intended to be archived permanently, as restoring anything requires assistance from CI.

What if there is no relevant Agency navigation topic I can tag my content page under, but I want it visible on the website?
Answer: If no existing Agency navigation topic on your website is relevant for your content page, approval from your Agency is required to add a new topic. Adding a new navigation topic can only be done by a System Administrator.
-
What if there is no relevant CT.gov topic I can tag my content page under, but I want it visible on CT.gov?
Answer: If no existing topic on CT.gov is relevant for your content page, approval from the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is required to add a new topic.
