The Connecticut Department of Transportation today announced upgraded passenger parking plans for various CTfastrak Bus Rapid Transit system stations in New Britain, Newington and West Hartford. Parking capacity along the CTfastrak corridor will be expanded by 142 percent in 2016 – for a total of 429 spaces versus 177 today. |
12/18/2015 | A new study conducted by the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering concludes chloride-based deicing chemicals should be expected to be the standard for the foreseeable future and CTDOT should continue to use sodium chloride as the primary deicing chemical. |

Commuters are urged to budget more time to catch their trains. As portions of the improvements are completed, pedestrian access from the STC to the expanded garage, through the original garage, will be returned to service. |

However, the half and full marathon course will significantly impact the normal operation of CTfastrak and CTtransit so riders should be aware of the bus routing changes and expect longer travel times. |

Four lanes of the new southbound bridge are scheduled to open to vehicles the week of September 28, providing much needed relief for tens of thousands of residents who face congestion in the corridor and enhancing the region’s overall economic competitiveness. |

Redeker today announced that the design for a new Walk Railroad Bridge in Norwalk is progressing and remains on schedule. Now, as bridge designers have been developing plans for the replacement bridge and preparing the necessary permits, interim repairs to help ensure its functionality have been completed. In addition to the overturned transport, lumber stored within the vehicle has spilled onto the roadway. The Department of Transportation and the State Police are working as quickly as possible to clear the road for safe travel. However, significant delays are expected to continue into the evening rush hour. The DOT urges residents to take alternative roads home and avoid I-91 South – north of exit 27 – for the next several hours. |

The DOT plow fleet of 632 trucks, stationed at roughly 50 garages around the state, is prepared for deployment as weather conditions evolve. Current forecasts indicate that the entire state fleet will be in use. If needed, the Department can add 200 private contractors to further compliment state plow crews. |
