Open House on Albany Avenue (Hartford) Reconstruction Project

The City of Hartford is hosting a public open house and presentation in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Office of State Highway Design on Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 1:00pm – 7:30pm at the Artists Collective Building, 1200 Albany Avenue, Hartford CT., to update the community about the upcoming Albany Avenue (Route 44) Reconstruction Project.

Public Info Meeting on Walk Bridge Structure on Dec. 5

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) in conjunction with the City of Norwalk and Norwalk elected officials will hold a public information meeting to discuss the results of the analysis that was undertaken during the bridge structure type studies for the replacement of the Walk Bridge on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the Maritime Aquarium IMAX Theater, 10 North Water Street, Norwalk. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the presentation starting at 6:30 p.m.

New Section of Cheshire Trail Opens

Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker and Cheshire Town Manager Michael A. Milone today announced the opening of a 2.4-mile section of a bicycle/pedestrian trail in the town of Cheshire – part of a continuous 23-mile section of the East Coast Greenway between New Haven and Southington.

GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF Q-BRIDGE/I-95 NEW HAVEN HARBOR CROSSING CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James Redeker and other officials today announced the substantial completion of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program, a multi-modal transportation project designed to increase capacity and safety and reduce congestion in the area. As of today, all major roadwork has been completed and travel lanes opened for use.

MTA Metro-North Railroad to Receive Up to 94 Additional M8 Cars for the New Haven Line

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board today approved an order for at least 60, and up to a total of 94 additional new M8 rail cars that provide train service on Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line.

CTDOT and DPH Testing for Contamination along I-95 in Stratford

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) announced today that air and ground sampling and monitoring will be conducted after asbestos was found in the soil at the site of a CTDOT project involving the design and reconstruction of Exit 33 on I-95 in Stratford. Preliminary indications are that there is no immediate threat to public health, according to the two state agencies.

Danbury Train Station Parking Lot to be Closed Beginning Friday, Nov. 4

In order to accommodate maintenance activities, the parking lot at the Danbury train station will be closed from Friday, November 4, to Friday, November 18, 2016. Parking permits will be honored at the adjacent Liberty Street parking lot. Passengers requiring handicapped parking are advised to use the Bethel station or find other alternatives.

GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES NEW PLATFORM OPENING AT BRANFORD STATION ON SHORE LINE EAST

Redeker and other state and local officials today marked the completion of a new platform at the Branford railroad station on Shore Line East – the commuter rail line between New Haven and New London. Trains are scheduled to begin utilizing the new platform on Saturday, November 5.

CTDOT Initiates Rail Noise Mitigation Efforts

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced that Connecticut would become the first state in New England to install automated horn systems, commonly known as wayside horns, at various rail at-grade crossings. Installed as part of CTDOT’s noise mitigation efforts along the CTrail Hartford Line, the first horn will be operational at the end of October at the Cooper Street grade crossing in Meriden.

Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker and Office of Policy and Management (OPM) Secretary Ben Barnes announced today the state is discontinuing negotiations with Stamford Manhattan Development Ventures (SMDV) for a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project at the Stamford Transportation Center. After three years of negotiations, CTDOT and OPM concluded that it would not be in the best interest of the state to proceed any further with negotiations in this matter.

Connecticut Seat Belt Usage Rate Increases to 89.4 Percent

The Connecticut Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office today announced that Connecticut’s 2016 seat belt rate has increased to a record 89.4 percent, up from 85.4 percent in 2015.

GOV. MALLOY SAYS THE STATE IS CONTINUING TO MAKE PROGRESS BUILDING THE HARTFORD COMMUTER RAIL LINE AS STATE-OF-THE-ART CONSTRUCTION MACHINE BEGINS OPERATIONS

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner James P. Redeker today unveiled the mammoth Track Construction Machine (TCM) that is now being used to double-track portions of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) passenger rail line, which is now being branded as the CTrail Hartford Line. Building a second track parallel to the existing single track, which is currently used by Amtrak trains, will allow more frequent train service and more efficient train movements when the CTrail Hartford Line, which will allow frequent, commuter rail service between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield, begins operations in January 2018.

Rail and Bus Fare Increases to Take Effect in December

Fare increases on Connecticut’s rail and bus systems will take effect in December, Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker announced today. Train fares will go up 6 percent, including a previously approved 1 percent increase; bus fares will go up 16.7 percent, or 25 cents on a single one-way CTtransit bus trip.

GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES CTFASTRAK HAS SURPASSED FOUR MILLION RIDERS

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that CTfastrak – Connecticut's recently launched bus rapid transit system – has passed a significant milestone, having carried over four million riders since its launch on March 28, 2015. During the month of July 2016 alone, passengers rode CTfastrak buses more than 259,000 times, or over 10,000 passenger boardings on an average weekday – that’s an increase of more than 23 percent over July 2015, demonstrating that usage overall in the corridor is increasing significantly.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven – informally known as the Q Bridge – will be lit in red, white, and blue this weekend in observation of Independence Day. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a service provider on the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield intercity rail line, now branded as the CTrail Hartford Line. The RFP is open only to those service providers approved and “short-listed” after a Request for Qualifications issued by CTDOT in 2014.

CTfastrak Celebrates First Year of Service

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, along with other state and local officials, today marked the first anniversary of operations for CTfastrak, the state’s first Bus Rapid Transit system. Over the last year, the CTfastrak system surpassed its first year ridership goal of 11,180 daily passenger trips and has doubled the daily ridership in the corridor.

Two Levels of the Stamford Train Station Garage to Reopen Monday

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced the Station Place Parking Garage at the Stamford Transportation Center will reopen on Monday, March 21, at 5 a.m. The newly reopened garage will provide approximately 300 spaces for customers on the ground and top floors of the garage.

Temporary Boarding Platform to Open March 28 in Meriden

The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today that a temporary boarding platform will be established at the site of the Meriden train station while a new station is built at the existing location, 60 State Street. The station project will also require the permanent closing of Brooks Street between Colony Street and State Street later this month.

CTDOT Announces Selection of Ticket Vending Machine System Contractor for CTrail Hartford Line

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) today announced that it has selected a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) System contractor for the CTrail Hartford Line (formerly referred to as the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Line). The $3.4 million contract was awarded to Trapeze Software Group, Inc., based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, through a competitive procurement process.

GOV. MALLOY ANNOUNCES NEW HAVEN LINE SETS ALL-TIME RIDERSHIP RECORD

Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that ridership on the New Haven commuter rail line for 2015 surpassed 40.3 million passenger trips – up two percent from the prior year and setting an all-time record, according to newly released data from Metro-North Railroad. The New Haven Line is the busiest commuter rail line in America. In 2014, ridership was 39.6 million.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) today released its $9.7 billion five-year Capital Plan – covering fiscal years 2016-2020 and including projects in all modes of transportation – highways and bridges, public transportation, ports and waterways and bicycle/pedestrian enhancements. DOT updates the plan annually detailing spending plans for 2016 and planned investments through 2020.
